Josh Rouse ist ein exzellenter Singer/Songwriter, der sich durch eingängige, herzerwärmende Balladen und gefühlvolle Coverversionen auszeichnet. Er steht ganz klar in der Tradition der 60er bzw. 70er und deren musikalischem Erbe: „My sound is still 70’s singer/songwriter. That’s my favorite style of music, so that’s what I do. I, and many of the people I work with, am obsessed with the sound and production of the 60’s and 70’s. Put simply, it just has something that a lot of modern records don’t have.“ Zusätzlich gründet der sympathische Exil-Amerikaner 2005 sein eigenes Label „Bedroom Classics“, um sich Majorlabels nicht verkaufen zu müssen. „With my own label, I can give my fans music through the internet or through traditional outlets more often - as it should be. My goals in doing this are to keep making records and to earn enough to keep going...which in my eyes is success.”
Artverwandte Musiker wie Ryan Adams, Wilco, Damien Rice oder Jack Johnson haben schließlich vorgezeigt, dass man auch ohne große Radiohits erfolgreich sein kann.
